Kids from the Boys and Girls Club in Phoenix got to learn from a renown swim coach at the Maryvale Family YMCA during June Dairy Month.

Bob Bowman, head coach of the Arizona State University swim team as well as Team USA, taught children basic fundamentals of swimming and water safety. He also placed an emphasis on good nutrition and cited milk consumption as a key element to the success of his long-time protégé, Michael Phelps.

“It means the world to me to be able to come out and share a little bit of time with these guys and get them to love being in the water,” Bowman told Sports 360 Arizona. “They all had fun and they all learned that you can be comfortable in the water. It’s a place where you can learn skills and they can also learn and build some confidence in some of the things we were doing.”

The event was hosted by Shamrock Farms, a local dairy farm and processor. During the event, representatives from Shamrock Farms presented the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Phoenix with a check for $5,000 in partnership with Team USA.
