We are wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, and we’re featuring a couple Arizona dairy moms.
Jen Millican is a manager at Stotz Dairy in Buckeye, Arizona.
We asked Jen to share a little about her role on the dairy and why she enjoys dairy farm life!
My main job is Young Stock Manager. I am in charge of all calves on the dairy that are seven months and younger. I manage the 12 calf barn employees, make sure timelines are being followed, look for problems, and find solutions. I also work hands on with the calves when we have vet check, when the seven-month-olds get weighed and measured, and when we move calves to a different stage.
I am also in charge of doing all the data entry related to births, deaths, and calves treated. My newest job has been to enter all the bills related to our new farming enterprise. I also break down all the costs so we know how much every crop on every farm costs. I am trying to become an IT expert on the dairy, which is challenging as I am good at fixing computers but I am better at breaking them.
Finally, I am in charge of Stotz Dairy’s community outreach, including dairy tours, school talks, etc.
I like working on the dairy because I love the unique challenges that happen all the time. I am very happy that I get to work in an industry that matters, feeding the world. I love working with the cows and getting dirty. I love that this is a family business, so I get to see and work with my family every day. I continue to be grateful that I am able to take my daughters to work with me.
