Students from Arizona’s Fuel Up to Play 60 (FUTP60) “Touchdown” schools got the spend Tuesday working out and eating healthy at the Arizona Cardinals stadium!
To be a “Touchdown” school, they needed to complete the six FUTP60 “plays” that incorporate nutrition and physical activity.
The day included a kids camp on the Cardinal’s Great Lawn with mascot Big Red, an introduction by Arizona dairy farmer Jason Van Der Toorn, brainstorming ideas for improving health and nutrition in their schools, a Zumba class with the Cardinals’ cheerleaders, and they created their own smoothie recipes. Last but not least, the students got to meet Cardinals Defensive End Calais Campbell. Calais was drafted by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Calais knows first hand the importance of healthy eating to fuel up for a big game and the exercise he needs to put in to prepare for each football game. The students had a Q&A with Calais and then each of the school groups got a photo with Calais.
