Growing up on a dairy is an experience all of its own. My childhood friends would come over and awe over a calf being born right in front of the house. 4-wheelers and horses were the best mode of transportation and coming inside the house in the middle of the day was only allowed for lunch or we had better be bleeding. Now that I have my own kids there is no other place to raise them. They hate when they have to work with me in the calf barn or push up feed but all the sudden when their friends come to visit all this dairy stuff is suddenly super cool, (hmm is this how my parents felt?) In a nation where farm life is generations removed, dairy life is something special. I wish more people had the opportunity to grow up seeing the same work ethic and dedication to our family and animals as we had.
